Song who had 137 caps for Cameroon was rushed to the hospital on Sunday, October 2 after he fell ill in his country home.
The 40-year-old was admitted at the Yaounde Central Hospital where he was in a coma for two days.
The director of the Hospital, Dr Louis Joss Bitang A. Mafok has revealed that the former defender is out of a coma and ready to be flown to France for intensive treatment.
"He has come out of his coma and the oxygen has been disconnected," A Mafok told BBC.
"His high blood pressure has returned to normal and the cerebral haemorrhage has been controlled.
"A
medical aircraft will be in Cameroon in the morning [on Tuesday]. We
will have a working session with the French team and then he will be
flown to France."
Lots of ‘get well
soon’ messages have flooded social media as former colleagues and the
football world in general has reacted to the news of his illness.
“I wish you a lot of courage and a speedy recovery big brother,” wrote legendary Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o wrote on Twitter.
“Our thoughts are with Rigobert Song and his family at this time,” the Liverpool official Twitter handle wrote.
“Hope everything ends up okay,” former teammate Jamie Carragher wrote while Robbie Fowler added: “Thoughts with Rigobert Song and family... hope he pulls through.”
After retiring from football, Song became a pundit for TV channel Orange Sports.
He was a member of the Cameroon national team between 1993 and 2010 and also played for Europeans clubs like Liverpool, West Ham, Lens and Galatasaray.
